You flip on Vacation Mode, hide the shop, and plan a real break. Then a bill lands anyway—listing renewals, Plus, Pattern. That is not a bug. Etsy Help is explicit: recurring charges are not paused automatically when you turn Vacation Mode on.
This guide separates what Vacation Mode stops from what still burns cash, with a pre-pause checklist and the critical gap between seller-on and Etsy-imposed Vacation Mode. Facts checked against Etsy’s Help Center on October 21, 2026. Confirm live wording in Shop Manager.

When you turn Vacation Mode on, Help says:

Help FAQ: bills during a pause can be fees accrued before you paused (still due) or fees accrued while on Vacation Mode. After you turn it off, listings are usually visible in search within minutes; search performance may change after inactivity.
US listing create/renew is $0.20 per Fees & Taxes Help. If auto-renew is on and a listing expires during Vacation Mode, that renewal still bills. You can disable auto-renew anytime.
Listings without auto-renew are not frozen: the 4-month clock keeps running and cannot be paused. Expired listings leave the live catalog until you renew or republish after return.
While you are on Vacation Mode, Plus keeps billing. Unused credits still expire at cycle end (no rollover). Cancel if the pause will waste the cycle. (Is Etsy Plus worth it? cites $10 USD/month from Help earlier in October 2026—confirm under Settings → Your subscription.)
Per Pattern pricing Help: $15 USD per month after a 30-day trial. Seller-on Vacation Mode does not stop Pattern billing even though the Pattern site is paused. Disable Pattern separately if you do not want that charge.
Offsite (Help): 15% if never $10,000 USD in any 365-day period (opt-out); 12% mandatory for life once hit; $100 cap; 30-day attribution. During seller-on Vacation Mode, Offsite charges do not accrue—so auto-renew, Plus, and Pattern are the usual vacation bill problem, not Offsite.

Long pauses with a large auto-renew catalog are where those bills stack.
When you control the pause:
Help-confirmed: Vacation Mode does not pause Star Seller evaluation. Eligibility still uses the last 3 months. When you turned Vacation Mode on, badges remain visible on the homepage.
Unanswered messages hurt response rate. Vacation Mode auto-replies count as responses—use that so a real break does not tank the metric from silence.
