Etsy Fees in 2026: The Full Breakdown (and How Much Etsy Really Takes)

"How much does Etsy take?" sounds like it should have a one-number answer. It doesn't. Etsy charges several separate fees: some on every sale, some only in certain countries, and one only when an ad brought the buyer. This guide walks through each fee using Etsy's own published figures, then puts them together in worked examples so you can see the real take on a typical order.

Every figure here is linked to Etsy's Help Center in the sources section. Etsy updates its fees periodically, so check Shop Manager before relying on any number.

The short answer

For a US seller on an ordinary sale (no ads), Etsy's fees are:

On a $30 order ($25 item + $5 shipping) that adds up to $3.30, about 11%. If the sale came through Offsite Ads, add 15% (or 12%) of the order, which brings the total to roughly 23–26% on that order. The details are below.

1. Listing fees ($0.20)

According to Etsy:

The listing fee looks trivial, but it's a fixed cost, which makes it a much bigger share of a $4 sticker than of a $60 print.

2. Transaction fee (6.5%, and it includes shipping)

Etsy charges 6.5% of the total order amount in your listing currency, and the fee applies to shipping and gift wrapping if you charge buyers for them.

This is the most common budgeting mistake. If you charge $5 shipping, Etsy takes 6.5% of that $5 too. Calculating 6.5% on the item price alone will underestimate your fees on every order that has shipping.

3. Payment processing fees (vary by country)

Every order paid through Etsy Payments carries a processing fee: a percentage plus a fixed amount. The rate depends on where your bank account is, not where the buyer is. Etsy says the fee is taken from the total sale price, including shipping and any applicable sales tax. (Our guide to Etsy fees on shipping shows what that costs per order.)

Some examples from Etsy's table:

Bank account location Processing fee
United States 3% + 0.25 USD
United Kingdom 4% + 0.20 GBP
Canada (domestic or US orders) 3% + 0.25 CAD
Canada (international orders) 4% + 0.25 CAD
Australia (domestic orders) 3% + 0.25 AUD
Australia (international orders) 4% + 0.25 AUD
Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands 4% + 0.30 EUR

Two useful details: if you refund an order, Etsy credits the processing fee proportionally to the refund amount, and processing fees are subject to VAT where required. Some countries (for example Indonesia, Mexico, the Philippines and South Africa) also have deposit minimums and deposit fees.

4. Offsite Ads fees (12% or 15%, capped at $100)

If a buyer clicks one of Etsy's ads on another site (such as Google, Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest) and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on that order:

(For the full details, including opt-out steps, see our guide to Etsy Offsite Ads.)

5. Other fees you might see

Worked example 1: a $25 item with $5 shipping (US)

Line Amount
Order total (item + shipping) $30.00
Transaction fee: 6.5% × $30 −$1.95
Processing: 3% × $30 + $0.25 −$1.15
Listing fee −$0.20
Etsy fees, organic sale −$3.30 (11.0%)
+ Offsite Ads at 15% (if attributed) −$4.50 → $7.80 total (26.0%)
+ Offsite Ads at 12% instead −$3.60 → $6.90 total (23.0%)

Assumes no sales tax collected. Processing also applies to sales tax where it's charged.

Worked example 2: a $5 item with $1.50 shipping (US)

Line Amount
Order total $6.50
Transaction fee: 6.5% −$0.42
Processing: 3% + $0.25 −$0.45
Listing fee −$0.20
Etsy fees, organic ≈ −$1.07 (≈16%)
+ Offsite Ads at 15% −$0.98 → ≈ $2.04 total (≈31%)

The percentage fees are the same in both examples. What changes is the fixed $0.25 + $0.20, which takes a much bigger bite out of a cheap order. That's why low-price listings are usually the first to lose money once you subtract materials, packaging and the label you actually paid for.

How to use this when setting prices

  1. Calculate fees on item + shipping, not the item alone.
  2. Use your own country's processing rate. Copying a US spreadsheet into a UK or EU shop gets this wrong.
  3. Price for the Offsite Ads case on any listing you can't afford to lose money on, especially if you're over (or near) the $10,000 threshold.
  4. Check your cheapest listings first. Fixed fees hurt them most.

If you'd rather not build the spreadsheet, Canopio has a free calculator that applies these fees to one order (with or without Offsite Ads) and can work backwards from a target margin to a price. It runs in your browser. There's also an optional $9.90 one-time Shop Audit (no subscription) that checks every live listing at once. FAQ

How much does Etsy take per sale?

For a US seller with no ads: $0.20 + 6.5% of item and shipping + 3% + $0.25 processing. That's about 11% on a $30 order. Offsite Ads add 12–15% of the order on attributed sales, capped at $100.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping and gift wrap you charge, and payment processing applies to the total including shipping.

Does Etsy charge a monthly fee?

A standard shop has no monthly subscription listed among Etsy's sale fees. Optional subscriptions like Etsy Plus are charged separately if you choose them.

Are Etsy fees different outside the US?

The 6.5% transaction fee and $0.20 listing fee are the same, but payment processing varies by country (e.g., UK 4% + £0.20, most eurozone countries 4% + €0.30). Some countries also have a regulatory operating fee.

Does Etsy refund fees if I refund an order?

Etsy says payment processing fees are credited proportionally to the refund amount. Check Etsy's policy for how other fees are handled.

Why is the listing fee charged again when an item sells?

If the listing auto-renews after a sale, or you sell additional quantities in one transaction, Etsy charges $0.20 for each renewal or additional quantity.
